Low-radiation dose XRF excited by MeV protons for cultural heritage samples

چکیده

Abstract In this work, we tested a setup of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) excited by proton-induced quasi-monochromatic X-rays (proton-induced XRF (PIXRF)) as low-radiation dose analytical technique for precious cultural heritage samples. The low-dose performance the PIXRF is experimentally assessed in comparison with conventional XRF. For assessment, prepared test samples, which simulated original Japanese paintings copper-bearing pigments. By introducing figure-of-merit, found to potentially give better terms radiation sample and limit detection, albeit degraded multi-elemental capability. can be cost-effective method perform low measurements if introduced an existing PIXE facility.

Metallic nanoparticles irradiated by low-energy protons for radiation therapy: Are there significant physical effects to enhance the dose delivery?

PURPOSE To identify which physical properties of nanoparticles are correlated with the survival fraction of cells exposed in vitro to low-energy protons in combination with nanoparticles. METHODS The Geant4 simulation toolkit (version 10.3) was used to model nanoparticles of different sizes (5-50 nm) and materials (Ti, Zr, Hf, Ta, Au, Pt), with or without an organic capping ensuring biocompat...

Ontologies for Cultural Heritage

In the cultural heritage domain information systems are increasingly deployed, digital representations of physical objects are produced in immense numbers and there is a strong political pressure on memory institutions to make their holdings accessible to the public in digital form. The sector splits into a set of disciplines with highly specialized fields. Due to the resulting diversity, one c...

Neoplastic transformation in vitro induced by low doses of 232 MeV protons.

The aim was to define the dose--response curve for high-energy proton-induced neoplastic transformation in vitro. The HeLa x skin fibroblast human hybrid cell assay was used to determine the frequency of neoplastic transformation following doses of 232 MeV protons (mean linear energy transfer, LET=0.44 keV microm(-1)) in the range 5-600 mGy. Proton irradiations were carried out at the Loma Lind...

Interfaces for Cultural Heritage

The newspapers and popular media constantly draw attention to an incredible rise in the amount of information especially through the Internet. Knight-Ridder News, for instance, recently cited an IBM study claiming that only seven percent of all corporate data is ever used. The amount of knowledge in great libraries and museums that is regularly used is less. Some major collections have as much ...

Adaption By Low Dose Radiation Exposure

h The procedures and dose limitations used for radiation protection in the nuclear industry are founded on the assumption that risk is directly proportional to dose, without a threshold. Based on this idea that any dose, no matter how small, will increase risk, radiation protection regulations generally attempt to reduce any exposure to “as low as reasonably achievable” (ALARA). We know however...
